Alcohol intake is associated with increased incidence of cancer of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus and liver. If the drinker also smoke, the risks are greater. Alcohol probably increases the risk of cancer of the colon, rectum and breast. High consumption of alcohol is also associated with high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, birth defects, osteoporosis, accidents, violence and suicide.
