Relief for toothache
The toothache can be a symptom of several problems, gum infections, cavities, cracks and bumps, bits of food lodged between teeth or the side effect to a sinus problem. Only the dentist can determine the cause, but we can offer some alternatives to relieve pain as you can go to your appointment.
• Take sips of water (room temperature) and rinse vigorously. If the toothache is caused by a piece of food lodged in the teeth, a strong enguaje can help you leave the remains of food.
• Use dental floss to remove food fragments remaining. Do it carefully, it is possible that your gums are sore or tender.
• Put on an ice pack to his cheek. This may numb the area quite enough to relieve the pain. Heat can aggravate a toothache, especially if it is a throbbing pain caused by inflammation.
• Try to distract yourself. You might consider practicing some aerobic activity. The endorphins released after walking, running or cycling for 25 minutes, are natural painkillers that will help you feel better.
• Keep a while a mouthful of hard liquor on the sore tooth. Your gums will absorb some of the alcohol and that will numb the pain. Spit out the rest.
• If the pain is caused by a blow to the tooth, try not to use this area when you eat. If nothing is damaged, the rest to the part can relieve pain.
• Place a small amount of oil of cloves (eugenol) directly on the sore tooth. This remedy can relieve pain and is found in many pharmacies.
• Take a pain reliever every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
If the pain is accompanied by fever, swelling, redness, foul-smelling secretions might have an infection and you should see your doctor as soon as possible.
Even if pain is relieved, do not cancel your appointment. Although the pulp of your tooth may be dead, the bacteria will multiply and can cause you serious consequences.
