Cause of Carcinoma Hepatocellular

Hepatocellular carcinoma is responsible for most cancers of the liver. This cancer is more common in men than in women and is usually seen in people between 50 and 60 years of age.This disease is more common in parts of Africa and Asia than in North America, South America and Europe.
Hepatocellular carcinoma is the same as metastatic liver cancer, which starts in another organ (such as breast or colon) and spreads to the liver.
In most cases, the cause of liver cancer is usually scarring of the liver (cirrhosis). Cirrhosis can be caused by:
* Excessive consumption of alcohol (the most common cause in the United States)
* Certain autoimmune diseases of the liver
* Diseases which cause inflammation of the liver extended
* Infection with hepatitis B or C
* Too much iron in the body (hemochromatosis)
Patients with hepatitis B or C are at risk of liver cancer, even if they have cirrhosis.
