How to Prevent Cancer?
This information is valuable, as some will not apply, perhaps not even read, but you better know it:
Years after being telling people chemotherapy is the only way to treat and eliminate cancer, John Hopkins Hospital finally began to tell us no alternative.
1) Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not appear in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that found no cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests can not detect these cells in detectable size.
2) Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in the life of a person.
3) When a person’s immune system is strong, it destroys cancer cells and prevents the formation of n Multiplication tumors.
4) When a person has cancer it indicates that it has multiple nutritional deficiencies. This may be genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5) One way to overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6) Chemotherapy is poison fast-growing cancer cells, but this also means that healthy cells are poisoned by rapid growth in the bone marrow, intestinal tract, etc., And can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, etc. ..
7) Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs. Read the rest of this entry »
Radiation Therapy for Carcinoma Treatment
Radiation therapy administered high-energy X-rays that can destroy rapidly multiplying cancer cells. It has many uses in lung cancer:
* As primary treatment
* To reduce the size of the tumor before surgery
* After surgery to remove cancer cells that may have formed on the treated area
* To treat lung cancer that has spread to the brain or other body parts
In addition to attacking the tumor, radiation therapy helps relieve some symptoms such as shortness of breath. As initial treatment instead of surgery, radiation therapy can be given alone or in combination with chemotherapy. Today, many patients with small lung cancer that is accessible by an X-ray beam but are not candidates for surgery, received curative doses of radiotherapy. This group may include the elderly, patients with chronic heart failure, and those who receive blood arralar medications that put them at risk of bleeding during surgery. More recently, greater use is being given a new technique called Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT). It involves a multitude of small radiation beams focused tracking the lung tumor in conjunction with breathing movements, usually three to five treatments. This treatment delivers high doses of radiation therapy or lung cancer patients for whom surgery is not an option.
Most of the time the radiation was administered with external beam technique, with which a beam of X-rays directly to the tumor. Treatment is given in a series of sessions, or fractions, usually for six weeks. Some studies have obtained good results and fewer side effects when the total dose of radiation is given in more fractions in a shorter time period. For more details see page of external beam radiation therapy. The three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy is a relatively new technique that is based on three-dimensional image of tumor obtained with computed tomography (CT). This image serves as the target for a beam of high-dose radiation that automatically changes shape and size to match the tumor. This method minimizes radiation exposure to surrounding normal lung tissue.
Broccoli and Cancer in Women
Studies carried out with indole-3-carbinol demonstrate the ability of this compound to deactivate a potent estrogen metabolite that promotes the growth of tumors, particularly breast cells.
It works by stimulating the activity of an enzyme that converts active estrogen in an inactive form, which has the effect of avoiding various female cancers stimulated by estrogen.
Therefore, this phytochemical content in broccoli not only suppresses the growth of tumors in the breast but also prevents the metastasis of cancer cells.
This vegetable is also capable of preventing ovarian cancer to be rich in a flavonoid called kaempferol.
There are studies that show that women who consume a greater amount of this compound are 40% less likely to develop ovarian cancer.
Broccoli and Prostate Cancer
The indole-3-carbinol is also effective for prostate cancer, it does act in two ways: first blocks several phases of cancer cells and on the other inhibits the production of a protein specific to the prostate (PSA) ; high levels in the protein are indicative of cancer.
The consumption of broccoli along with the tomatoes enhances the effectiveness of this cruciferous against prostate cancer.
The reactions induced by chemotherapy is due to the effects that drugs have on healthy cells and, although very frequent, it is normal that each person reacts differently. You may not experience any sensations described below, and these vary in degree throughout the treatment. Consult your doctor everything that concerns you. Talk to him.
Most patients often feel tired because of the ‘chemo’, although there who manages to continue with their normal life without the treatment interfere with their work activities, social or family. And thanks to advances, the drugs used in chemotherapy are now becoming more selective, so that kill malignant cells, causing minimal damage to healthy.
It is difficult to predict how each patient will react because there are no homogeneous parameters. It is normal for all the discomfort disappears when the cycle is completed when the cells are an opportunity to recover themselves from the effects of chemotherapeutic drugs.
What is Chemotherapy?
Chemotherapy involves using drugs to kill cancer cells. There are over 50 different drugs to combat the disease and prevent the growth, multiplication and dissemination of malignant cells.
When they are healthy, they grow and divide in a controlled fashion, but cancer cells are characterized precisely by the uncontrolled growth. Therefore, these agents, which can be used alone or in combination, are intended to block this proliferation chaotic.
The treatment duration, dose, drugs and so on. depend on factors as diverse as cancer, its location, general condition … This is only a brief guide that under no circumstances can replace the doctor, ask him any questions that arise before starting therapy.
Side Effect of Radiation Therapy
The cancer treatment itself is painless and sometimes even the device touches the skin of the patient. But the radiation itself can cause some problems that vary depending on the characteristics of the tumor, the patient’s general condition and various other factors.
Generally these side effects are not very serious, and also disappear in the weeks following the treatment, some patients experience even very moderately. Although depends on the individual and the area has been treated, there are some common reactions to all tumors.
* Fatigue: is the most common effect. The decay, lack of appetite and apathy start feeling some days after treatment. They usually disappear within a few weeks, but may be extended even months. To prevent this drastic change their lifestyle and interference in their activities, it is advisable to make an energy saving plan. Total inactivity should be avoided by practicing daily tasks, like laundry or grocery shopping, reading, painting or moderate exercise. The help of family and friends is essential, as is carrying a very nutritious diet and light weight.
* Changes blood. Often radiation can affect the bone marrow, which is responsible for producing blood cells in our body. For this reason, experts usually carry out periodic blood counts for the duration of radiation therapy to control the levels of red and white cells do not fall below normal.
* Changes in the skin. The treated area may redden, darken and cause itching. It is very important not to scratch and not treat it without consulting a doctor because it may worsen the problem. The most appropriate care depends on the treated area, and in any case the doctors and nurses will advise on measures to take.
* Edema is a localized or diffuse swelling resulting from fluid accumulation in certain organs or tissues. To treat it with steroids, substances including natural products such as cholesterol, bile acids, sex hormones or corticosteroids.
* Nausea: They are also frequent in the digestive disorders, which carry nausea, dizziness and stomach pain. It is best to eat small amounts of food often high in calories and proteins to strengthen the immune system.
* Loss of appetite, not surprisingly, as a result of therapy, some patients lose the desire to eat and consequently lose weight a few kilos. There are little tricks to avoid this, eat small snacks throughout the day, drink plenty of fluids, eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and so on.
* Sexuality: Patients treated with radiotherapy can see your sex drive temporarily reduced by fatigue and stress it produces. However, substances such as steroids increase libido.
* Aesthetics: The radiation does not cause hair loss, but this is the case if what is being treated is the head. If there is a total collapse of what is normal hair to regrow in the two or three weeks after treatment. It is not unusual reborn with a different color or texture.
Steroids and other medications may cause an increase or a sudden loss of weight, but once these drugs are withdrawn and the patient returns to conduct a normal life again regain the figure.
Food and Cancer
Although there are still many mysteries surrounding the cancer is well known that there are other genetic factors that are related to the appearance of tumors: by case, is known about the close ties between the lung and larynx cancer and smoking.
The diet also plays a major role in this field: in food can be substances that encourage tumor growth or, conversely, preventing it. Regarding the former, we can mention, for example, aflatoxins produced by molds, which although not a problem for public health control of food long did involve risk.
Also, be aware that the products may contain polycyclic smoked or benzopyrenes that could become cancerous if their use is very common in here to advise limiting intake of such foods.
Other evidence has shown that a diet low in fiber but high consumption of animal proteins and fats, also influenced the development of cancer of the colon and intestines, or tumors in the breast and uterus would also be linked to diet rich in lipids and obesity.
However, just as some food compounds would be “pro cancer”, exit others, by contrast, protect against cancer: fruits, vegetables are more allied food group, and thanks to antioxidant compounds protect against the harmful effects of free radicals and, consequently, also against cancer.
So remember to eat your five servings of fruits and vegetables to prevent cancer also. Also, in your daily diet includes high fiber foods such as legumes and cereals. Conversely, limit your consumption of foods rich in animal fat, smoked, salted and cured, and alcoholic beverages.
Small Cell Lung Cancer (II)
TREATMENT
There are treatments for all cancer patients with small cell lung. Used three kinds of cancer treatment, surgery (limited stage), radiation (for the primary tumor and metastases) and chemotherapy (in all phases of extension)
LIMITED STAGE
1. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the chest with or without prophylactic cranial irradiation
2. Chemotherapy with or without prophylactic cranial irradiation.
3. Surgery followed by chemotherapy with or without prophylactic cranial irradiation.
EXTENSIVE STAGE
1. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the chest with or without prophylactic cranial irradiation
2. Chemotherapy with or without prophylactic cranial irradiation.
3. Radiotherapy of metastases (brain, bones)
RECURRENT STAGE
1. Radiation therapy to reduce pain
2. There are clinical trials of new drugs.
History of Cancer Treatment
The first written information about the treatment of a patient with cancer dates back to 1,600 BC. This is an Egyptian papyrus which tells the first surgery for removal of a solid tumor.
Regarding chemotherapy, the first cytotoxic compound ( ‘poisonous to certain types of cells’) are not just used for medical purposes. Mustard gas was first used as a military weapon during the First World War and later studied in greater depth during the Second.
In 1945, after several soldiers were accidentally exposed to this substance was discovered that white blood cell levels were surprisingly low. This observation led scientists to believe in the ability of this agent to kill cells and therefore began its use as a cancer drug in lymphoma patients, just a variety of disease related to white blood cells.
It was used for intravenous administration instead of gas inhalation. He ran the forties and from that the number and variety of anticancer drugs has changed dramatically today.
