Causes of Mesothelioma
Between 70 and 80% of cases of mesothelioma reported a history of asbestos exposure. Symptoms of mesothelioma may appear 20 to 50 years after exposure. This long latency period means that people exposed to asbestos during the decades of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s may be showing symptoms now. It is important to know that any exposure to asbestos increases the risk of developing mesothelioma, although not all people who had contact develop it.
Asbestos represents greater threat when in the air (say, in powder form that can be inhaled) when is fixed.

Environmental exposure

If you live, work or study near a factory to work with asbestos, for example, a manufacturer of pads, sheets, gloves, waterproof, covers for electric cables, water heaters, boilers, water tanks old, cardboard, textiles and water pipes, increases the chance of being affected because asbestos particles released into the air.
